Christmas showcase: 55 Mark Lane – Christmas Decor by Plant Designs

Plant Designs were instrumental in helping this client achieve the look they wanted, inspired by Christmas displays in New York.

The displays in New York had created a ‘wave’ effect on a high level garland that she wanted to create that over here. Previously 55 Mark Lane had only ever had minimal live Christmas trees but for 2016 they wanted Plant Designs to create an array of spectacular replica Christmas displays using symmetry, design and incorporating the wave image that she had in mind (though she had no photos!).

Having chosen the simple and elegant silver and white Snow and Ice scheme decor from our 2016 Christmas range we put together a number of proposals for them to consider. The variation in our theme was the various ways we could incorporate lengths of silver beading to create the wave style that she had in mind.

The displays
Two large trees complete with festive scenes. 6 Festive rings and over 100 feet of lit and unlit fully decorated garland split over 4 areas:

0ver 100’ of replica thin and thick garland
White LED lights
Silver and White Christmas decorations including several hundred feet of silver beading
2 x 4’ Festive rings
4 x 2’ Festive rings
2 x 8.5’ Replica Christmas Trees

Snowy animals which included white squirrels, white owls, split logs

Cinnamon and Orange Scentsicles

Filled crates
Geometric cones

The beauty of this scheme was the simplicity of the design and the unusual and creative way we were able to weave silver beading into the scheme to create a unique and original look. The client had power fitted especially into the high level walkway that enabled the garland to be lit properly to catch the eye on arrival into the building.

The garland was then mirrored at the back of the reception on the ground level to complete the look and bring the scheme together. Having created clean lines of symmetry it became obvious that mirroring with symmetry should be very much a part of the design. This was then brought forward to the 8.5’ trees and scenes inside the entrance doors and on either side of the central wall behind the reception desk.

One of the biggest concerns of the client was that they would lose the smell of a live tree by converting to replica, this was easily overcome by attaching scentsicles into the decorations and whilst we weren’t trying to replicate the smell of pine we successfully evoked the smell of Christmas with cinnamon and orange, to the complete satisfaction of the client.
